Luis Posada Carriles: And what about Miami?

So much shame does not cease to surprise us. Luis Posada Carriles, the most notorious terrorist of the Western hemisphere, formally requested his freedom to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Eduardo Soto, one of Posada’s attorneys introduced a wide documentation to the US Immigration and Control in El Paso, Texas, trying to prove his defendant does not represent a serious threat to the Cuban American community in Miami, city where he supposedly would go to reside in case of his release and which will always be available for the authorities.

According to Mathew J. Archambeault, also forming part of the legal team and sharing the fruitful earnings together with Soto, there is not the slightest risk for his client trying to escape to another country. What are the reasons that might lead to the Defense team to assert such a statement? Nobody could deny that anything dealing with Posada has to do with an agreement reached with the North American highest authorities.

Soto, himself declared and warned to the Miami press: “if parole is denied, we will go to a Federal Court for the case to be revised, and we have not started with empty hands since there have already been talks on the issue with Washington’s government.”

After such a statement, is anyone unable to realize what will finally happen with Posada Carriles?

Obviously, the North American executives continue ignoring international claims on Posada’s extradition to Venezuela, they also deny their involvement on the terrorist’s illegal entrance to the U.S and ignores the criminal’s huge file.

However, different information declassified by the FBI and the Central Intelligence Agency itself, discredit the 50 pages documented maneuver recently introduced by the Defense to disguise Posada Carriles’ mercenary personality with dubious evidences on “his links with the community, his public life, the family whereabouts in the United States, also the place where he will live and an immediate employment proposal, if release takes place.”

Posada’s true story is very different. He is nicknamed “The Hunter” ( due to his fame as an expert shooter) and he has traditionally gone through the Western hemisphere with false identifications with names such as Ramón Medina, Ignacio Medina, Juan Ramón Medina, Ramón Medina Rodríguez, José Ramón Medina, Rivas López, Juan José Rivas, Juan José Rivas López, Julio César Dumas, Franco Rodríguez Mena.

Since 1957, he got in touch with the FBI, formed part of the U.S. army and received military courses in the famous “School of the Americas” at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1963, he was trained as a CIA agent.

According to the book “The Plot” by General Fabián Escalante, a former chief of the General Division of the Cuban Counter Intelligence, Posada is seriously involved in Dallas’ assassination in Texas and the Watergate scandal.

In the 60 decade, he was linked with terrorist bands such as Alpha 66, Comandos L. Movimiento 30 de Noviembre. In 1967, obeying CIA’s instructions, he founded the Department of Intelligence and Prevention Service in Venezuela and simultaneously worked for the secret services of Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile and Argentina.

He is responsible together with Orlando Bosch of the blowing up of the Cuban civil airliner in October 6, 1976 in Barbados. He organized and participated in several (frustrated) attempts against Fidel Castro, also the planting of explosive devices in Cuban embassies in Latin America and Europe.

During the Tower Commission’ hearings on the Iran-Contras issue, Posada Carriles’ participation was unveiled as an adviser for the Nicaraguan contras under Colonel Oliver North’s direct orders.

Besides, he was a member of the Cuban American National Foundation military wing, that a year later took the name of Frente Nacional Cubano. In 1997, he organized with the Foundations’ support, the implementation of plans of attempts against Cuban tourist facilities, action recognized by him a year later during an interview published by the New York Times in which he expressed: “As you can see, the FBI and the CIA, do not disturb me and I am supportive with them, any time I can help them, I do so.”

He also got involved in the preparation of plans of attempts against Fidel during the Iberian American Summits in Islas Margaritas, Venezuela and in Panama.

Recent statements made by Cuban experts on terrorist issues consider Posada an opportunist, mercenary, professional killer, a man who has always been in the places more useful to exacerbate his ego and fill his pockets.

Could the North American justice restrain itself from such a criminal personality like Posada Carriles and pardon a man who traditionally praises his terrorist work?

The U.S. president has once more reiterated his commitment of continuing with war against terrorism and his will of avoiding any enclave where terrorists find shelter. This is outrageous, and What about Miami?
