Fox Condemnation of US Migration Headlined

Mexico, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) Mexican media have largely covered President Vicente Fox´s rejection of the US attempts to tighten its anti-immigrant policy.

Morning newspapers published on Monday remarks Vicente Fox made in Algiers, last leg of a four Mediterranean-country tour, condemning the construction of a wall at the border with Mexico.

The US administration backed the Congress decision, with which we disagree, asserted the Mexican leader, terming the move "alien to today´s world."

Fox said his government proposed the White House to create mechanisms to orderly, efficiently and productively allow for people´s migration to the North American country.

In a March visit to Washington, the statesman will try to materialize that important goal.

According to a National Human Rights Commission communiqué, the so-called True Identity Law, likely to be applied in the US, will become a huge obstacle for Mexicans immigrants.

The document concluded persecutory and unilateral Washington measures against migration of undocumented people needed a just solution for the supply and demand of labour force between both nations.
Public Audience on Cuban District Elections

Havana, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) A public audience on the electoral system and democracy in Cuba will take place Monday at Havana´s International Conference Center in view of the district elections on April 17.

Participating experts will discuss the historical record of elections since the country ended an institutionalization process in 1976 that also included the promulgation of the Socialist Constitution.

Cuban officials will analyze the national legislation regarding the electoral process and compare it with the balance of elections in Latina America. Discussions will focus on the US government´s plans against Cuba.

The US accuses Cuba of lacking a democratic system with free and periodic elections. However, Cuban elections show the highest levels of voter attendance on the planet. Voters´ participation in the elections has never been less than 95 percent.

The public forum today will be used as a national reference in conferences on electoral issues from February 16 to 22 and the subsequent community debates.

Cuban Parliament sources said the debates will be recorded in videos and printed matter to contribute to the preparation of citizens responsible for the management of district elections.
