HAVANA, Cuba, June 19 (acn) Cuban Council of Churches (CIC) President, the Reverend Marcial Miguel Hernandez, affirmed his organization’s commitment to the Cuban people and his solidarity with the cause of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in US jails.
During a meeting with the press, Reverend Hernandez reiterated his support to “what has always been done in our nation in the benefit of the people,” PL news reported.
The CIC President expressed his solidarity with Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, who have been unfairly held in US prisons since 1998.
Reverend Hernandez condemned the recent decision by the US Supreme Court of not reviewing the Cuban Five case and said that “we have expressed our wish that the unjust process comes to an end.”
The religious leader recalled that 10 years ago protestant churches held four public celebrations of national impact, an occasion to be recalled next July 11 with a religious cult.
The CIC has also called on its congregations to join a voluntary work session throughout the country which “will serve as a testimony of the contribution by the churches to the needs of this nation,” said the Reverend.
The initiative and others of theological nature will be part of activities to mark the 89th anniversary of the First Hispano-American Protestant Congress, held in Havana back in 1929.
