HAVANA, Cuba, June 24 (acn) Representatives from the United Nations and ministers from 11 countries will participate in the 7th International Convention on the Environment and Development that will take place in Havana on July 6-10, 2009.
Specialists from the organizing committee of the event told ACN that the list of guests is headed by Ahmed Djoghlaf and Luc Gnacadja, executive secretaries of the UN conventions on Biological Diversity and to Combat Desertification and Drought, respectively, as well as Kenton Millar, Senior Advisor of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Also attending will be ministers and secretaries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Qatar, as well as representatives from the UN Environment Program (UNEP) and the general secretaries of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Thus far, the organizers of the event – the most important of its kind held in Cuba – have received almost 300 summaries by authors from 26 countries.
Delegates will participate in lectures and colloquiums on transcendental topics on the environment and also in five congresses on Education, Protected Areas, Administration and Management of Ecosystems, Biodiversity and Climate Change.
More than 4,000 delegates and guests from 50 countries and Cuba have participated in the six previous events.
