One of the implicit promises of the Reagan-Bush Conservative Revolution was the continuing material benefits to white workers of systemic discrimination against Blacks and other racial minorities. While the economics of racism have worsened conditions for black workers (employment, housing, poverty rates, education), they have not materially improved conditions for white workers. Whether this leads to an anti-racist majority that can implement real social and economic equality remains to be seen. This article seems overly optimist. I may be wrong, but Marx says consciousness is rooted in the material conditions of life. MH.
