Sit in demonstration by thousands of workers in front of the National Assembly.....Bro. Cho Joon-Ho, KCTU president, ordered an emergency rally in front of National Assembly building tonight, in the face of moves by the ruling party to pass the non-regular workers' labor law bill, despite strong opposition from unions and civic society.

In their criticism of the bill, the Civic Society and Democratic Bar Association argued that it would increase working poor and deepen the social divide.

In another development, 25,000 railway workers of KFTPSU, one of UNI's affiliates, went on strike from February 28th after a breakdown in negotiations over the union's demands on reinstatement of dismissed union activists and transfer of women stewards to regular status. As of today, strikers dispersed into small groups to escape from the authority intervention. The prosecution office has ordered warrants of arrest against 11 union activists, including Bro. Kim Young-Hoon, president of the Korean railway workers' union.

Koo Kwon-Suh, head of National Non-Regular Workers' Coalition, underlined in his speech at the strike, 'President Roh Moo-Hyun said in his election campaign that he would wipe out tears of non-regular workers…. But he lied to us; from now on, we will extend the all out struggle for Step Down Roh government.'
