PICASSO'S GUERNICA

Text:

the scene is filled entirely with horror and death
from clearly defined suffering individuals underneath
to subtly placed images reinforcing the overall destruction
like those of the battlefields of Iraq by the battle weary Zion
at the centre is a horse with a spear driven to it, recoiling in horror
within the image is another image of a skull of esprit de corps (pronounced cor)
the spear protrudes from the eye of the skull that winces and screams
death does not stop the suffering, it seems
to the left of the horse is a woman weeping
over the body of her dead offspring
at the end of the painting is a person crying out
from within a burning house that turned out
to had provided sanctuary and appeared to be eaten by a monster
that became a battle leading to a massacre that Picasso failed to deter
the bull stands mostly still with a slight look of alarm in its face
represents the oppressed on one hand and Franco, devoid of praise
many have cried out against injustice
but few have been so powerful as this masterpiece
that those guilty of the crimes it condemns
avoid appearing next to it like George Bush of mayhems

*Socialists In Defense of Parliamentary Democracy (SODPAD) is a Toronto-based organization that are comprised of socialists, communists, social democrats and those who believe in the power of the ballot vis-a-vis the power of the gun. We support the aims and political agenda of the CPUSA, CPC, CPGB. We renounce violent armed struggle as a means of attaining the ends. We condemn the heinous crimes of Jose Maria Sison, the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New Peoples Army.
