Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba´s Revolutionary Armed Forces, born after the Granma yacht landed in 1956 with Fidel Castro and 81 combatants on board to start the Cuban Revolution, are celebrating Friday their 49th anniversary. The occasion coincides with the commemoration of Operation Carlota, an extraordinary heroic deed of solidarity and altruism done by thousands of Cubans 30 years ago to defend Angola while shrugging off colonialism and opening its full independence. Cuba not only gives the Third World the supportive aid of its doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers and technicians, but African countries such Guinea Bissau, Democratic

Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and Angola knew solidarity of Cuban fighters.

Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) The 15th Congress of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), sessioning this Friday at Havana's Conference Center, is analyzing

interesting issues for the international workers' movement. The 534 delegates, representing 248 unions from 72 countries, are debating today neoliberal globalization´s impact and the union´s role within it, as well as the course of the struggle for peace and against imperialism. The WFTU Congress started Thursday with a plenary session led by Cuba´s Labor Federation (CTC) general secretary



Biotech Event for Feeding World

Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) The Biotechnology Congress Habana 2005 is winding up Friday in this capital after six days of debates, focusing on how biotechnology can ensure a sustainable production of food.

Masterly conferences, symposiums, posters and fairs have shown advances of this scientific branch applied to agriculture and cattle breeding to produce more food without damaging environment and human health. Results of research and Cuba's impact on biotechnology were also presented during the meeting, attended by 550 delegates from 32 countries.



Vietnam-Cuba Relations 45th Year

Hanoi, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam´s top leaders sent congratulations to Fidel Castro, the Cuban Party and government to mark Friday the 45th anniversary of the

establishment of the two countries´ diplomatic relations. All Hanoi´s press is spreading today the missive signed by the Communist Party´s Secretary General Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and the National Assembly Chair Nguyen Van An. The text describes the relations´ establishment as a positive political occasion for the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples´ interests and friendly cooperation, adding that 'amity and solidarity of Parties, States and peoples have strengthened and developed to become a bilateral relations model that contributes to national development and defense.'

Demand: Eliminate Foreign Monopolies

Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) demanded the elimination of the current domination by transnational monopolies and the plundering of the peoples´ resources for use in wars and in the arms race. The demand was part of Thursday´s report on the situation of the trade union movement in the world and the activities of the international organization presented by Alexander Zdrarikov, general secretary of the WFTU.
