Havana, February 2 (AIN).- The menaces, lies and war mongering schemes presented by US President George W. Bush during his State of the Union address were the focus of the analysis of the Cuban prime time radio and TV program The Round Table on Wednesday.
Bush’s speech was described by international news analysts in the show as a total failure. According to information provided by the panel, the results of the opinion polls taken immediately after Bush ended his address to Congress showed that more than fifty percent of the Americans rejected the written statement that he read.
Cuban top TV news analyst Eduardo Dimas explained that Bush’s address had been based on about two hundred drafts, focusing mainly on supposed terrorist threats that serve to justify the internal repression in progress in the United States of America. Bush bypassed topics related to the social and economic hurdles through which millions of American citizens are going in their daily struggle for survival.
Dimas stated that Bush’s words were of a very hypocritical nature in an attempt to prepare public opinion for future wars of aggression, which will be started under the umbrella of a terrorist menace that will again justify the US policies.
Bush told Congress that during his mandate there will be no troop withdrawals, despite the failure of the Iraq invasion, where 136,000 US soldiers form part of the occupation forces.
Granma daily newspaper director Lazaro Barredo who also took part in the Round Table added that 90 percent of the people of Iraq, of whatever political tendency or religion they may be, want a solution to the US military presence. Meanwhile Bush rejected any possibility of relinquishing the political, military and economic domination of Iraq, a nation that is suffering terribly from the genocidal war unleashed by the US government.
So far 2,243 American military men and women had died in the war, though the Pentagon refuses to add to the list those who were severely wounded and have died while undergoing medical treatment in military hospitals in Europe and the US.
Meanwhile, the number of British soldiers that have died in Iraq reached the 100 mark, unleashing severe criticism in the UK media.
Juventud Rebelde newspaper director Rogelio Polanco referred to how Bush launched a direct verbal attack against Iran during his State of the Union speech, reiterating false arguments and accusing the Teheran government of wanting to use nuclear technology to build weapons.
Polanco warned about the dangers involved in submitting the so-called Iran nuclear issue to the United Nations Security Council, because that will lead to a possible intervention, which has been rejected by Iranian President Ahmadinejad. It is maintained by Ahmadinejad that his nation has the right to access the technology for peaceful purposes, just as many other nations do.
Polanco affirmed that Bush is trying to create propaganda aimed at the upcoming mid-term elections to take place in November, therefore he carefully avoided mentioning topics that connect his administration to corruption scandals in which members of Congress and companies related to the administration are deeply involved.
Cuban TV journalist Reinaldo Taladrid analyzed how for the first time ever the president of the United States admitted that his nation is addicted to oil, and having to deal with criticism about the oil promoted war stated that there is a need to search for alternative forms of energy.
Taladrid provided information about the huge profits being realized by the oil giants, the rapid rise in the price of oil, and highlighted the fact that the United States is now far behind in research efforts aimed at the development of alternative energy sources.
During The Round Table, Lazaro Barredo analyzed the difficult social, healthcare and educational situation that the American people have to deal with, while the nation is spending $500 billion on weapons. There are no less than 46 million people, 39 percent of whom are Latino, who have no healthcare insurance despite what George W. Bush promised years ago.
Randy Alonso, the moderator of The Round Table reported that 39 billion dollars of the upcoming budget were cut today by the House of
Representatives, basically in the areas of healthcare and education, something that will have a devastating impact among lower-income people.
Alonso concluded that the US president’s State of the Union message while newly crafted had nothing but electoral aims and the desire to continue imposing the same old militarist policies which are running into ever-growing opposition worldwide.
