Glenn Beck Schemes to Split One Nation, Totally Revive McCarthyism

Glenn Beck directed his tea-party extremists to the website of the Young Communist League, the Communist Party USA's youth organization, in his Sept. 28 and 29 television shows.  His goal was to incite controversy, and renew the terrible legacy of McCarthyism, prior to the One Nation rally scheduled for October 2.  He desires that the sensation he created should harm the rally, dividing One Nation by stirring up yet another prejudiced fear.  It is this Communist's hope that friends and other progressives see through Beck's caricature of socialists and communists.  The modern Communist Party is in no way tied to past mistakes made in the name of Communism, values democracy as the key component in the creation of the better society we strive for, and will, indeed, be out in the streets of Washington D.C. marching for the democratic reforms we want to see this Oct. 2, 2010.

Within minutes of Beck's directing followers to the Young Communist League's website in his Sept. 28 show, a person using the moniker "John the Communist Killer" wrote "the only good communist is a dead communist," which was "liked" 42 times as a barrage of similar harassment continued over several days.

In Beck's Sept. 29 show, he continued to direct viewers, focusing on the Communist Party USA's desire to participate in the Oct. 2 One Nation rally.  Beck linked many socialist organizations to the rally, not only to rile up the tea-party base, but protect the reputation of his Restoring Honor rally by dissuading progressives from attending the One Nation rally.  This political manipulation is the definition of McCarthyism, which relies on fear and prejudice to split and weaken social movements.

All progressive people, valuing democracy and the right to self-determination, must not fear McCarthyism.  We must stand together.

Most of all, no one ought to rely on the self-declared enemies of socialism for their belief in what Communists stand for.  The Communist Party USA does not agree with the policies of Stalin, and has declared such many times after discovering Stalin's crimes against humanity.  Just as Barrack Obama and Augusto Pinochet (who buried the poor alive during his rule in Chile) are capitalists and nothing alike, members of the Communist Party USA are nothing like Stalin or Kim Jong Il.

In fact, one of the key values of the Communist Party USA is democracy.  Marx wrote, in his "Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right", that the constitutional democracy has thus-far been the best form of government devised by humankind, and that it would be ideal if one could vote on all issues of public policy.  In many of Marx's early philosophical work, he explained that his key purpose in writing philosophy is to work out a society in which humankind could be free from alienation and become self-determining in both the political realm and the economy.  What the Communist Party USA stands for is an extension of the principle of democracy into the workplace. Communism is, essentially, the realization of a democratic economy.

With this goal in mind, you will find Communists working diligently in any progressive cause that acknowledges class/race/gender/sex/LGBTQ oppression as having a continued history in our society.  Communists will be part of the One Nation rally.  If Glenn Beck and his tea-party followers don't want to be part of One Nation, and I quote:

"America, love it or leave it".

  • I don't know what's worse, Glenn's ignorant reenactment of McCarthy or the CPUSA's brown beateness at the water cooler in the associate professor faculty room? Though Stalin went down the wrong path, and it may have been an intrinsic defect of the monolithic party, his "crimes" were in a class fighting context. The archives are open; no one has to debate Conquest's 70 million death number. I know it may be semantics did Stalin's policies kill 5 million in the camps (most during the lean war years) or 20 million; but let us look at the context: the world was full of concentration camps in the 30s. Even America, a much more developed country, had hundreds of thousands of chain gang convicts in the South. Their crime was being poor and/or black. Most in the Gulag actually committed crimes (again archives).
This sad excuse of a party needs to bring back some people from retirement. They weren't the best--but who's running this party now, the AFL-CIO?
