Union Leader Slams Wall Street/GOP Hypocrisy

In a segment titled 'Talk Me Down' on Dec. 2, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow spoke with United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard who fired back at right-wing and corporate attacks on working families as the cause of the financial crisis.

The typical Republican and corporate line is that working people and their unions have made some companies too expensive to operate, ignoring the wave of greed and deregulation that lay behind the subprime mortgage crisis, the credit crunch, and the general collapse of Wall Street. Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, for example, advised this month that that auto companies should be allowed to collapse in order, essentially, to bust the United Autoworkers who are at fault for that industries problems.

Maddow opened the segment by contrasting three bailouts. First, Maddow reported that state governors this week called on President-elect to make federal investment in jobs creation available to states as part of the solution to the economic crisis.
