US Arms Race is a Crime

Havana, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Mexican researcher Alfonso Herrera Franyutti described as a crime the multibillion-dollar US military escalation in a world where the vast majorities die of hunger.

They spend billions of dollars in arms of death, a budget that could save millions of lives and feed hungry peoples, Franyutti told Prensa Latina.

The cost of a single aircraft carrier could solve the economic crises in many of the poorest countries on the planet, he added.

A guest at the International Conference for World Balance, which closed recently here, Franyutti criticized the cowardice of US President George W. Bush, who is incapable of solving by himself the problems and aggressions that he unleashes.

He has always had to hide behind two or three servile governments to commit his crimes and send people to death, as when he invaded Iraq in March 2003, Franyutti added.

Then, he sought the complicity of England and the puppet government of Spain to justify the massacre that he was going to commit in the name of oil, the axis of his policy, the Mexican intellectual pointed out.

Terrorism has just been Bush's pretext, greatly overrated to create another terrorism that is worse than the alleged terrorism he is fighting, he added.

His hegemonic escalation is aimed at monopolizing the resources and reserves of those countries that whet his avarice, but worse, those resources go to the big wealth-hoarding consortiums that hold the economic power, Franyutti stressed.

A retired physician by profession, Franyutti is the author of the most complete book on Jose Marti's stay in Mexico. The Conference for World Balance paid tribute to the Cuban national hero on his 155th birthday.
