Communists Organize 10-Day long 'March for Change'

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) organized a 10-day long 'March for Change' demanding the change of Govt. as well as change of State policies. To overthrow the misrule of BNP-Jamat government and resist communalism, autocracy and imperialism, CPB urged a fundamental transformation in the country’s policies and its orientation. The programs started on 11th September and concluded on 20th September. The central leaders of CPB walked over 3000km during the march and addressed several hundred public meeting and mass gathering.

In the inaugural part of this march CPB President Manzurul Ahsan Khan and General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim addressed rallies in Cox’s Bazar and Pallabi, Dhaka. Addressing the rallies CPB leaders said that the pro-imperialist foreign policy of the government, plundering of national wealth by local and multinational exploiters, harboring the militants and religious extremist forces and the interference of the imperialist countries, and the World Bank and IMF in country’s internal affairs are the root cause of present crisis. They said that this crisis has compelled the common people to come out into the street.

On the other hand, instead of working to remove the roots of the ongoing crisis the bourgeois ruling and opposition alliances are engaged in competition to satisfy the plundering elites and their imperialist bosses. Taking the advantages of this complicated situation conspiracies are being perpetrated from various corners. Referring to the formulas of so called 'Civil Society Government,' 'National Government,' 'Interim National Government' and threat of 'Third Force,' the CPB leaders said that all these formulas are being introducing to prepare the background for a dirty power game of unconstitutional plots. The CPB said that in this situation only a left democratic transformation of the economic-political-social system can ensure a breakthrough from the vicious circle of crisis, and the CPB called upon the nation to build a Left Democratic Alternative instead of remaining stuck up in the framework of bipolar bourgeois power game.

The CPB leaders also urged upon all patriotic citizens to strengthen the struggle to unitedly resist unconstitutional plots. The Party reiterated its position for comprehensive electoral reform to ensure fair elections free from the influence of money and muscle power and demanded immediate implementation of 53-point demand charter of electoral reform proposed by the Party.

CPB leaders said that the common people are trying to get rid of the BNP-Jamat misrule. That’s why the government is trying to hold a fake election. They said that CPB is demanding the change of govt. and is also demanding changes in state policies. The Party is also demanding the stopping of plundering in the name of open market economy. The leaders reiterated Party’s demand for restoring the fundamental principles of the 1972 constitution, including the four principles of nationalism, secularism, democracy and socialism. They called upon the nation to build up a strong movement to bring about these fundamental changes in country’s policies.

CPB’s Concern over US Mediation Proposal

The Communist Party of Bangladesh expressed its serious concern over the recent mediation proposal of US ambassador, Ms. Patricia Butenis to remove the differences between ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and main opposition Awami League. Expressing their concern the CPB President and General Secretary said in a press statement that Ms. Butenis’s proposal is practically a part of a conspiracy against Bangladesh and a shameful interference in the internal affairs of country’s politics. This is also a naked violation of the country’s sovereignty and national dignity.

Recalling the history of liberation war of Bangladesh the CPB leaders said that in the name of mediation, the US administration had carried on a conspiracy to push forward the plan for a confederation with Pakistan.

The CPB leaders said that recent activities of US administration and diplomats in Bangladesh clearly indicate that US imperialism is paving the way to ensure their imperialist interests and permanent dominance in this region like in other parts of the world.

The CPB Leaders said that the two main bourgeois parties of the country are taking suicidal steps by creating opportunities for imperialist interference in country’s internal affairs on the pretext of 'mediation' between them. This policy of the bourgeois parties to appease and collaborate with US imperialism is not only a disgrace to national dignity but it also creates a serious danger for country’s sovereignty and independence. Condemning the unauthorized activities of US ambassador the CPB leaders said that her recent activities are not only breach of diplomatic norms but also a part of imperialist conspiracy. The leaders called upon the nation to resist imperialist’s conspiracy and demanded to declare the US ambassador a persona non grata and expel her from the country.
